Purchasing Info

When looking into purchasing a Gypsy Vanner or a Drum Horse, cost is obviously part of the equation. Due to their rarity and the cost of importing original stock, the average price for a Gypsy Vanner seems to still be in the $20,000.00 range, and that of a Drum Horse is around $10,000.00. Of course gender, lineage, proven ability in a certain discipline, training and various other details, can drive cost up or down. If you are waiting for prices to come down, it probably will not happen anytime soon. The popularity of these breeds and their new found versatility both are likely to keep the prices high.

A majority of Gypsy Vanner and Drum Horse owners are average middle-income individuals. Most people save for their purchase, others have taken out personal loans and some have even used Credit Cards or cashed in CDs. Some breeders offer payment plans, but be aware that these plans usually do not extend beyond 6 months and most of the time, the buyer takes over all of the horse’s expenses (vet, farrier and board) once the agreement has been signed. Also, more often than not, because the horse has been removed from the market, any amount of the money that has been paid, in non-refundable, should you decide not to follow through with the purchase.

We encourage potential buyers to do their research and not settle on the first “good deal” or even the most expensive horse that comes along, just as in any other situation, “You get what you pay for and sometimes you don’t”. Please do you research!!
