Drum Horse Standard

Registration Requirements (effective 1/1/05)

A horse seeking registration as a Drum must be: The offspring of two registered Drum Horses, The offspring of one Premium registered Drum Horse and one Breeding Stock Drum Horse, “OR” meet the breeding and Physical requirements as described below.

 

Classifications (effective 1/1/05)

Premium: The horse in question must contain a minimum of 7/8 Gypsy Cob, Shire, Clydesdale or Friesian in any combination. The horse must be an obvious Pinto coloration. Full blooded Gypsy Cobs, Shires, Clydesdales and Friesian are not eligible for registration as Drum Horses. Smaller of the two parents must be at least 15 hh. (Foals bred under previous breeding requirements will be grand fathered)

Foals born or bred on or after 1/1/2006 must contain a minimum of 1/8 Gypsy Cob. Horses must be measured at 16 hh on or before their 5th birthday. Any horse not standing at least 16 hh will be classified in the Breeding Stock category.

Breeding Stock : Pedigree must contain 3/4 Gypsy Cob, Shire, Clydesdale or Friesian in any combination. Full Blooded Gypsy Cobs, Shires, Clydesdales and Friesian’s will be issued a breeding ID number, not a registration certificate. Breeding Stock horses may be solid in color and may have a parent standing less than 15 hh.

Crossbred Categories

Light Horse Cross: Horse with one registered Drum Horse parent, and one parent of any light horse breed. (Stallions are NOT eligible for registration)

Heavy Horse Cross: Horse with one registered Drum Horse parent, and one parent of any non-feathered breed. The non-Drum Horse parent must be an obvious Draft breed.(Stallions are not eligible for registration.) *Fillies and Mares from this division are eligible for breeding up. Foals produced out of The Heavy Cross that are 3/4 Drum Horse are eligible for Breeding Stock. Foals resulting from the Heavy Cross that are 7/8 Drum Horse are eligible for Premium Registration.

Please Note:

Horses registered as Drums may NOT be dual registered as a Gypsy Cob or Vanner, either pure or part.

Gypsy Cob Standard

The Gypsy Cob may be of any size. The Gypsy Cob is a breed. To get a Gypsy Cob, you must have two parents that are Gypsy Cobs.

Light Horse Cross: Horse with one registered Gypsy Cob parent, and one parent of any light horse breed. (Stallions are NOT eligible for registration)

Heavy Horse Cross: Horse with one registered Gypsy Cob parent, and one parent of any non-feathered breed. The non-Gypsy Cob parent must be an obvious Draft breed.(Stallions are not eligible for registration.)

Crosses are not eligible for breeding up.
